Founded by Historians Who Refused to Let Stories Fade

Our journey began in 2018 when three university researchers realized something troubling: the most compelling aspects of Australian heritage were being lost to superficial tourism narratives.

The Problem We Witnessed

Standard heritage tours rushed past significant sites with rehearsed scripts. Guides recited construction dates without explaining why those buildings mattered. Visitors left with photos but no deeper understanding.

Meanwhile, in archives and academic journals, fascinating research sat unread. Doctoral theses revealed intricate connections between architecture and social change. Archaeological reports uncovered forgotten narratives.

The gap between scholarly knowledge and public access seemed unnecessary.

Our Approach: Research as Foundation

Every tour we design begins with months of archival research. We examine original construction documents, read contemporaneous newspaper accounts, and consult archaeological surveys.

Our guides hold degrees in history, archaeology, or architectural conservation. They're not memorizing scripts—they're sharing their actual research.

This depth allows us to answer unexpected questions. When someone asks about a specific architectural detail, our guides can explain the historical context that shaped that choice.

What Guides Our Work

  • Scholarly Rigor: Every historical claim we make can be traced to primary sources or peer-reviewed research.
  • Narrative Engagement: Academic depth doesn't require academic dryness. We craft compelling stories from verified facts.
  • Inclusive History: We present multiple perspectives, acknowledging that different communities experienced the same historical events differently.
  • Continuous Research: New archival discoveries and research findings are integrated into our tours regularly.

Who Leads Your Experiences

Our guides are active researchers who've published in academic journals, contributed to heritage conservation projects, and spent years studying specific periods of Australian history. They bring not just knowledge, but genuine passion for revealing overlooked details that transform how you see familiar landmarks.

Beyond Tourism

Since our founding, we've guided over three thousand participants through Australia's heritage sites. Many have told us the experience changed how they understand their own cities.

We've also contributed research to heritage preservation initiatives, helped identify historically significant buildings facing demolition, and partnered with museums to develop more nuanced exhibitions.

Our mission extends beyond individual tours. We're working to raise the standard of how historical sites are interpreted and appreciated across Australia.
